Hi everyone!
I am so excited to welcome you to my new website! After thinking about all the changes in my practice while finishing up the PhD I decided I needed to create something new that reflects all the recent developments in my work.
Teaching news
I am back to teaching Tuesday – Friday and Saturdays. Feel free to contact me to see if I have a time to suit you. I currently teach both online and in person. I take regular weekly and fortnightly bookings, as well as ad hoc lessons for those who are just looking for a tune up or an assessment. Check out my new Teacher page.
Teacher training
This is something I have done for many years! I am so excited to add this aspect to my website. My practice with teachers is now highly informed by my PhD research (for more information check out my Researcher page).
I work with lots of different kinds of voice teachers, helping to fill gaps in teaching application or pedagogical knowledge. I especially enjoy working with classically trained teachers, working with them to transition their own voices into CCM and musical theatre singing styles. The other type of work I enjoy is helping unlock functional issues in teacher’s voices—we all get niggles every now and then that need extra attention! I also provide feedback on lessons and team teach. Check out my new Teacher Training page.
Clinician
Over the past few years I have been involved in workshops and masterclasses with various universities and conferences. I have added this page for information on this work, as well my residency projects. The residency project, again, was born out of my PhD research and focuses on working with students, and if requested, teachers. I am particularly interested in functional and stylistically appropriate voice training for contemporary pop/rock/country, R&B, hip hop, folk and other CCM styles for musical theatre performers. Residencies are designed to be a collaborative, immersive experience which fits in with your semester’s curriculum and structure. What each residency involves is negotiated individually with each school and is tailored to the needs, wants, wish list and requirements of your faculty and students. Check out my Clinician page.
Researcher
I have loved doing my PhD and look forward to sharing more of my findings in the future. My research involved a novel approach to investigating voice pedagogy in practice. A qualitative project, I used a multi-sited focused ethnographic approach to discover how music theatre voice teachers in the USA in six undergraduate programs were approaching teaching the Contemporary Commercial Music (CCM) genres (such as pop, rock, country, hip hop etc) so common in musical theatre. This meant I visited six universities for two weeks each, observing musical theatre voice teachers in their working environment within one-to-one voice lessons.
I look forward to being able to write more about the research soon. You can check out my Researcher page here.
